Heel Pain
Targeted care to relieve heel pain and restore comfortable movement.
Heel pain is one of the most common foot concerns and can have a number of underlying causes. It may develop gradually or appear suddenly, and can affect comfort when walking or standing.
Early self-care measures such as rest, ice, compression and elevation (RICE) may help in the short term. However, if heel pain persists for more than a few days, becomes severe, or starts to affect your mobility, professional assessment is important.
At Alexandras Podiatry Care, we carry out thorough assessments to identify the cause of your heel pain. Treatment is tailored to your individual needs and may include Low Level Laser Therapy, targeted exercises, orthoses, and footwear advice.
Our aim is to relieve pain, improve function, and help you return to comfortable movement with confidence.
Common causes of heel pain include:
-
Plantar fasciitis: Inflammation or strain of the tissue that runs along the sole of the foot, often causing pain that is worse first thing in the morning or after rest.
-
Heel spurs: Small bony growths on the heel bone, which can cause discomfort if the surrounding tissues become irritated.
-
Achilles tendon problems: Inflammation of the Achilles tendon, either at its attachment to the heel or slightly higher up the leg, leading to pain and stiffness.
-
Bursitis: Swelling of the small fluid-filled sacs beneath the heel, which help cushion the joint.
-
Tarsal tunnel syndrome: Compression of a nerve in the foot, which may cause tingling, numbness or burning sensations in the heel or surrounding area.
