Biomechanical Assessment

Movement and gait assessment to improve function.

Biomechanics in podiatry focuses on how the feet and lower limbs are structured and how they function during movement. Many foot, ankle, knee, hip, and even back problems arise from subtle issues in alignment or movement patterns. When the bones, muscles, and joints are not working efficiently together, excess strain is placed on surrounding tissues.

This can contribute to a range of conditions, including:
  • Muscle strains and tears

  • Ligament sprains

  • Tendon injuries (tendinitis)

  • Joint degeneration and “wear and tear”

Reduced natural shock absorption through the feet and legs can also play a role in stress fractures, lower back pain, and neck discomfort.

At Alexandras Podiatry Care, a biomechanical assessment includes a detailed series of tests and measurements to assess joint mobility, muscle strength, and overall function. We also carry out a gait analysis to observe how you walk and how forces are distributed through your feet and legs. Your footwear is reviewed for signs of abnormal wear and to ensure it is appropriate for your work, lifestyle, or sporting activities.

Once the underlying cause has been identified, we develop a personalised treatment plan which may include:

  • Low Level Laser Therapy

  • A targeted exercise programme focusing on strength and flexibility

  • Orthoses to reduce harmful mechanical stresses

Our aim is to improve function, reduce pain, and help you move more comfortably and confidently in everyday life.
